Programs We Offer
  • Women's Support & Information Forum: This series serves for women/girls to maintain and organize regularly scheduled traditional forums. This series is traditional to our culture as it offers opportunities for peer support, economic impowerment and social support.
  • Advocacy: This program concerns on immigration, family unification, female circumcision, domestic violence, mental illness, housing, and other issues common to our immigrant/refugee popupation.
  • Civic participation and voter registration: We promote civic participation, increase voter registration and address barriers to full voters registration by developing new models for voter education.
  • Literacy: Adbar works to reach out to and support efforts of children, parents and communities that speak a language other than English. The goal is to develop English-language literacy, and that children and adult will be able to read.
  • Newsletter production: Mela, publication of Adbar is the first Ethiopian Women bilingual quarterly newsletter in the U.S. In Mela we address issues such as women's rights, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, immigration, children/youth issues, and concerns that are common to our immigrant population.
